Mohsen Ardabilian

Workshop 1: 3D/Hyperspectral Imaging

Advanced Imaging: 3D and Multi/Hyperspectral Acquisition, Analysis and Recognition

Dr. Mohsen Ardabilian received a joint B.Sc degree in Mathematics and Computer Science from Jussieu PARIS VII, France. He obtained a Master Degree in 1996 and a PhD in 2000 in Computer Science from UTC - Université de Technologie de Compiegne, France. In 2001 he founded Avivias Company - spin off of Ecole Centrale de Lyon - specialized in Media Asset Management and audio video analysis and indexing, with several confirmed industrial players from Thomson, Canal+ Technologies, Philips; he served as expert in video analysis and indexing. In 2003 he joined Ecole Centrale de Lyon, one of the most prestigious French grandes ecoles of engineering, as associate professor where he is the head of Computer Science Academic. His research interests are focused on Biometrics, 3D face sensing, analysis and recognition, human skin bioinformatics. He is a member of LIRIS-UMR 5205 CNRS. Author of more than 80 publications appeared as journal papers or conf. proceeding, books chapters, international patents and protected software, he served as reviewer for international journals and conferences. Dr. Mohsen Ardabilian holds the national award of scientific excellence.

The objective of this workshop is to familiarize the participants with two new advanced modalities in imaging, namely 3D and multi/hyperspectral. The first provides geometric information in combination with the textural information allowing a more relevant and discriminate analysis. As for the second, it allows to exceed the limitations of the human vision, allowing toaccess the hidden biological characteristics for analysis. The workshop is divided into two parts, the morning is devoted to the presentation and exchanges, the afternoon to the training session. In the first part the end-to-end processing chain is explored, from acquisition to analysis and recognition: First we introduce the acquisition technologies for each of these modalities before analytical techniques and the applications. In the second part, two industrial sensors, a 3D sensor and a Mult/Hyperspectral sensor, are involved for an acquisition session. Tools, partially in Open source, will be provided and used for the Advanced Image Analysis.
